Pretty Simple

Posted by Doncrack Monday, July 26, 2010

I have seen some amazing weddings come past my desk while we have been working on our spring issue! Here is one I really wanted to share with you - Rowena and Chris had a beautiful and relaxed wedding...I just love their unique bouquets, those who know me will know that flowers are my 'thing' and I have to say these bouquets by Lotus Flowers caught my eye! There is quite an art in making flowers seem relaxed and loosely arranged and when done well there is nothing more perfect than an imperfect bouquet. Of course credit where credit is due the whole day was captured perfectly by the very talented Karalee from Angelsmith Photography.

Rowena looked perfect in her Lisa Ho dress.

A Fair Good Time

Posted by Doncrack Sunday, June 27, 2010

I came across these simply gorgeous pics by photographer Angelica Peady on her blog and thought I must share them with you. The colours are simply delicious! Andrew and Talitha decided, after a year of wedded bliss, to have an after wedding shoot. With the help of Angie herself they came up with the fabulous fair idea. Talitha opted for a 50's inspired updo by Sofia Rodi while Kat from Petals & Leaves created the outrageously gorgeous lollypop bouquet and matching buttonhole. The venue, the great Hawkesbury Show, takes place one weekend a year in Richmond, Victoria and is the smaller sister show of the Royal Sydney Easter Show. What a fun location, nothing like a day at the show! If you're keen to find out more about Angelica Peady's Couture Bridal Portraits contact her at www.angelicapeady.com.au. As part of the package she suppliers the hair and makeup artist, flowers, accessories and all of the concept designs, in conjunction with you of course. If you're suffering the post wedding blues then this could be the perfect pick-me-up!

A Sweet Setting

Posted by Doncrack Tuesday, May 11, 2010

As the months turn cooler, we have started to think of warm, cosy colours and comforting settings. We are reminded of our Fruits of Favour story from Issue 11. Instead of elaborate floral displays we used an abundance of fruit in gorgeous red and plum tones coupled with single blooms set at each placesetting.

Three spreads from our Fruits of Favour story.

Annabelle suggests "When dressing your reception tables remember that keeping it simple can sometimes be the key to a stunning effect - an extravagant floral arrangement can often be overpowering, where as an individual bloom, set at each placesetting is perfect in its simplicity. When nestled in a sweet vessel the combination is a divine keepsake for guests, which will also add a stunning finishing touch to your tablesetting."

Flower Power

Posted by Doncrack Thursday, April 29, 2010

We have the most beautiful selection of flowers in the studio at the moment ready and waiting for our photo shoots. One of my all time favourites is the flannel flower - a native of Australia which is nice to know. It's delicate and pretty but not too frilly for my sensibilities.

We used them in our Nice Day for a White Wedding story in Issue 10. Annabelle, our editor, started her wedding career as a florist making countless bridal bouquets and tablecentres. What she doesn't know about flowers isn't worth knowing and her skills come in very handy when we're planning our magazine stories. Annabelle made the beautiful shower bouquet that we used in the story - a relaxed arrangement of Iceberg roses, lilies and flannel flowers - just lovely.

Perhaps you might like to consider using the flannel flower in your wedding arrangements. Go on, support a local!

Inspired by the Viceroy Palm Springs

Posted by Doncrack Monday, March 29, 2010

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Viceroy Palm Springs for the weekend. Be sure to check back tomorrow to see photos of the gorgeous property by the one and only Jose Villa! Today, though, I have a fun tablescape that some wonderful, creative vendors put together to show as an example of what could be done with the beautiful outdoor event space.

Kelsey from Alison Events and Danielle of Brown Paper Design were the creative minds behind this fun table. The Viceroy has a very mid-century modern look, with a color palette centered around whites and blacks with splashes of yellow. They thought it would be fun to play off that color scheme, but also add in some flirty, playful touches as well. From Danielle, We were really inspired by Kate Spade's current campaign. There is something so fun and lighthearted, yet still very modern about her ad's lately. We wanted to bring that feeling to the Viceroy and thought doing such a bright palette would be a bit unexpected bride's looking at Viceroy. Sort of a weekend escape wedding. Gorgeous photos below by Jose Villa.

We had the cutest guest stop by! Another great thing about the Viceroy Palm Springs - they are a dog friendly hotel, so you can have your puppy there for your big day. :)

And what a creative idea for the place card table! From Danielle, because of the heat of Palm Springs- fabric flowers seemed like a really great way to bring in tons of saturated color without having to worry about things wilting in the heat. It was a lot of work to make those flowers, but I think it really added a nice tactile touch. And they are great memento's of your wedding.

Pretty & Glamorous

Posted by Doncrack Monday, February 15, 2010

Pale pink and silver make such a pretty colour palette for any wedding. Often this colour palette is well suited to more formal affairs, however it could easily be adapted to suit a cocktail or at home party. There is an abundance of flowers available in soft pinks and almost everything these days comes in silver so you shouldn't have any trouble sourcing products to fit within your theme. I thought our Style Guide stationery Flora Aura and Crystalline fitted perfectly with my Polyvore! These pieces can be purchased from our online shop. Don't forget the guys either. A pale pink tie, soft silver/grey suit or a pale pink shirt can look quite dashing. Pink isn't just for the ladies!

shake it up

Posted by Doncrack Thursday, October 29, 2009

These mismatch salt and pepper shakers make such sweet little vases, I found them on one of my favourite blogs Sunday Suppers. They would look gorgeous in a cluster or even at every place setting on your tables. You could pick them up pretty cheaply at second hand stores or ebay, they would also make a sweet favour for guests to take home.

Sam Hawthorne and Iain Kennedy

Posted by Doncrack Tuesday, October 13, 2009

We featured the gorgeous Sam and Iain's wedding in the latest issue of Wedding Style Guide. Sam is originally from Queensland and her groom was from Scotland. To include all of their friends and families they decided to have two weddings, one on Stradbroke Island in Queensland and the other in a beautiful Scottish Castle. The venues were polar opposites from each other but both were absolutely striking. Both weddings were shot beautifully by Blumenthal Photography.

Below is some of the Australian wedding as featured in Issue 12

Stradbroke Weddings did all of the event coordination and styling

And here are some beautiful images from their Scottish wedding
