Tasting Time is one of my favourite stories in our Issue 15. It's simple but elegant and not too girly for me. I'm really happy with the invitation idea – it came to me in the middle of the night as often they do. I remembered we had some fabulous illustrations on file from Melanie Terrett who supplies the images for our Guide section. I wanted to design something interesting that would suit the theme and I think these piccolos, wrapped in an illustrated invitation really hit the mark. Oh, and see that little pencil in the foreground...don't tell anyone, but that's from Ikea! I put my ever-growing collection to good use by painting them in a pretty colour to match the story and it worked a treat.

Our always-happy photographer Claudio Raschella shot this story in my husband, John's, restaurant – it meant everything we needed for the food and drink shots was right at hand. We took over half of the restaurant floor and had lunch customers looking on, critiquing our work and asking lots of questions. It was a fun way to hold a shoot actually, very different to shooting in the studio.

As with every shoot, it's a lot of planning, preparation, and work on the day. But we enjoy every second. I know the models did - they got to eat and drink til their hearts were content!

Emilie found a new wedding magazine in the newsagents this week. She brought it in to show me as she knew it would interest me. You see, there are a few pages in there that are strikingly similar to pages I've designed for previous issues. I guess there will always be similarities between publications, it's inevitable when designers take inspiration from the same sources, but yep, there was no doubting it for me - these were pretty close.


That's the new publication's page on the left, and our page on the right.

I contacted the publishers and they've kindly agreed to change the design for their next issue. We really are very flattered!

I can't function unless I'm organised. Our Classified Information story from Issue 8 was a great opportunity for me to go to town. I bought a simple expanding folder from Officeworks, covered it in a pretty fabric using spray adhesive (available at art stores) and then teamed it with a spectacular ribbon from Specklefarm. It's the perfect spot to store stationery favourites.



Not satisfied with the folder alone, I designed a Things to Do card – it's yours free from our download collection.



And what got me reminiscing about all of this – these great sticky notes from Notemaker. The Patternism Twin Set Sticky Notes are my kind of sticky note - oh how I loathe the standard sickly yellow ones.

We moved offices a couple of weeks ago so we're just about sorted in our lovely new studio – it's so nice to have all this room as we were bursting at the seams in our last office.

Annabelle and I share an office. I think our staff like it that way because we play our 80s favourites and talk too much for anyone else to concentrate. We've been busy making our work space functional and pretty (of course). I'm the organised, practical one, Annabelle's the girly, decorative one. I think we make a great team – she's a big-picture person and I love all the details – hence the new labels I made for our boxes.

Earlier I blogged about our pretty Paper and Lace story. Well, behind every story there is a lot of planning, sourcing, shopping, packing, shipping and organising. When everyone is working hard it helps to have a team of fun people and we always seem to nail it. This shoot our photographer was Shona Henderson who is always smiling and ready for a laugh. She brought along her assistant Chris who couldn't have been more helpful. We shot the story at the stunning Glen Ewin Estate in SA – it's one of our favourite spots. We were lucky with the weather too as the day was perfect.

Well, we're all very excited now as Issue 15 hits the shelves in Australia next Wednesday, the 9th of June and we've just received our preview copies back from the printers. Wow. We know we say it every issue, but this really is our best ever – and biggest ever – we just had so much to fit in, it's huge!

What a time I had last week. I was lucky enough to stay at The White House in Daylesford, Victoria. Owned and decorated by one of my style heroes, Lyn Gardener from Empire Vintage fame, this gorgeous little house is nestled amongst some of the most beautiful countryside I have seen. It was cold and raining for most of the time we were there, the perfect excuse to spend long spells in front of the open fire, grazing on delicious local produce and catching up on favourite magazines.

This house is such an inspiration to me as a designer and stylist. Every corner has an interesting display or collection to admire. It was a direct reflection of Lyn herself - warm, inviting, generous and relaxed - everything a home should be.









We were so fortunate to have Lyn feature in our Gift Registry story this issue. She shared her tips and tricks on how to make a house feel like a home. Her insights give anyone about to embark on the fabulous task of registering for gifts a heads up on making choices that will last a lifetime.

As the months turn cooler, we have started to think of warm, cosy colours and comforting settings. We are reminded of our Fruits of Favour story from Issue 11. Instead of elaborate floral displays we used an abundance of fruit in gorgeous red and plum tones coupled with single blooms set at each placesetting.

Annabelle suggests "When dressing your reception tables remember that keeping it simple can sometimes be the key to a stunning effect - an extravagant floral arrangement can often be overpowering, where as an individual bloom, set at each placesetting is perfect in its simplicity. When nestled in a sweet vessel the combination is a divine keepsake for guests, which will also add a stunning finishing touch to your tablesetting."

We have the most beautiful selection of flowers in the studio at the moment ready and waiting for our photo shoots. One of my all time favourites is the flannel flower - a native of Australia which is nice to know. It's delicate and pretty but not too frilly for my sensibilities.



We used them in our Nice Day for a White Wedding story in Issue 10. Annabelle, our editor, started her wedding career as a florist making countless bridal bouquets and tablecentres. What she doesn't know about flowers isn't worth knowing and her skills come in very handy when we're planning our magazine stories. Annabelle made the beautiful shower bouquet that we used in the story - a relaxed arrangement of Iceberg roses, lilies and flannel flowers - just lovely.



Perhaps you might like to consider using the flannel flower in your wedding arrangements. Go on, support a local!

We have been lucky enough to work with Aaron over the past few months putting together some of the most amazingly beautiful weddings for the magazine in coming issues.
