Love Your Lips

Posted by Doncrack Monday, March 15, 2010

I've been converted. I was never a lipstick fan but enjoyed, as a young girl, watching my Mum put her lippie on everytime she needed a spruce up. Now I see what the fuss is all about! Lipstick keeps your lips soft, coloured and oh-so kissable. I'm loving Estee Lauder's new limited-edition Love Your Lips collection. The 12 lip-loving Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick shades feature a special L♥VE logo on the lippie itself and the glosses are all packaged up in vials specially adorned with the logo. Estée Lauder Signature Lipstick’s lustrous, creamy, comfortable formula delivers hours of moisture and wear to lips with a glam high-shine finish. Available in 12 lip-loving shades including three new shades: Cherry Kiss, Pink Kiss, and Coral Kiss. The Kissable Lip Gloss is a non-tacky, cushioned formula that feels comfortable on the lips and adds tons of shine. Kissable Lip Gloss is available in four all new, voluptuous shades: Sweet Kiss, Cherry Kiss, Pink Kiss, and Coral Kiss. Available nationwide at Estée Lauder city stores only from April 18, 2010.

The Good Oil

Posted by Doncrack Thursday, March 4, 2010

For the last six months I, along with an increasing list of celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Salma Hayek and Deborah Messing, have been using Moroccanoil. I have say it's possibly the most fabulous product I've ever used on my hair. I have very fine, blonde hair and find it needs to be well maintained to avoid breakages and to encourage growth. Moroccanoil has truly done wonders for my hair and I will go out of my way to suggest people try it. The Argan Tree, found growing only in Southwest Morocco and added to the World Heritage List in 1999, produces a kernal which is crushed to produce Argan Oil, a powerful antioxidant, UV protector and free radical neutraliser, rich in vitamins that strengthens and increases the elasticity of hair. Not only good for hair, Argan Oil has been used by Berber women in Morocco for centuries as a skin protectant and for medicinal purposes. Imagine what it can do for your luscious locks in the lead up to your wedding!!

Moroccanoil treatment AUD$49.50

Recently Moroccanoil released three new products containing the wondrous Argan Oil - Moisture Repair Shampoo & Conditioner along with an Intense Hydrating Mask. I sat down with Andrea Garvey, Moroccanoil's Brand Manager, whilst she was visiting from America and discovered that not only will these products do wonders for ANY kind of hair, purchasing them means you're also helping communities in Southwest Morocco trade Argan kernals and oil through fair trade practices. Andrea has herself seen the difference these products have made to her own hair, after (like me) she had a disastrous salon experience. I've been using these products for a month or so now and love them all. I'm hooked! Visit www.moroccanoil.com to find out all the info and to find a stockist near you.

Moisture Repair Shampoo & Conditioner (250ml each) AUD$28.95 each

Estee Lauder LOVES Derek Lam

Posted by Doncrack Tuesday, February 16, 2010

For the first time in the Estée Lauder brand's 64 year history, they embarked on New York Fashion Week, sponsoring the beauty look (makeup & nails) at the Derek Lam Autumn/Winter 2010 runway show. Bold blue eyes, copper lips, matte skin, bare cheeks and neutral nails ruled the catwalk at ‘Capitale’, with Estée Lauder’s new Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux testing some new Estee Lauder Pure Color Fall 2010 products backstage to rave reviews. With a vision to compliment Derek Lam’s fashion theme: “The Myth of the West”, Tom Pecheux led a team of 15 makeup artists to create the stunning look on 22 models, while famed manicurist Jin Soon Choi and her team polished their nails with a new Estée Lauder color tested at the show. Although extreme for a wedding day look you can recreate bits of this look such as copper lips or hints of blue on the eyes. Products from this look will be launched in the Estee Lauder Fall collection so keep posted on www.esteelauder.com.au for all the details.

Wedding Make Up

Posted by Doncrack Sunday, December 27, 2009

I love this picture! Brittany was just such a beautiful bride! And a joy to work with! {PSA - She didn't have a make-upzilla... I just liked the picture}

This week I am going to talk a little bit about 'zilla's. Everyone has heard of the term Bridezilla and frankly... I am not a fan. Honestly, we are blessed, we have amazing brides! I love our brides! If I could collect them all and put them in a little box and keep them with me all of the time I would!

But sometimes you have a vendor that you are working with that forgets, it's the bride's day. And there are 30 other vendors that you are working with that day to make sure that HER day is perfect.

This week is dedicated to that vendor... the its-all-about-me-vendor-who-runs-on-their-own-time-schedule-and-doesn't-care-about-anyone-else-but-them vendor.

Vendorzilla! {insert the dum, dum-dummmmmmmmm music}

Make-upzilla, please return calls that are made to you. If a bride or a wedding planner call you, actually if anyone calls, it's always poliet to return our calls.

Make-upzilla, if you wouldn't mind writing our bride's schedule in our planner so that on the wedding day, when you have 5 girls to do, you don't leave after doing just one...

Make-upzilla, it would be nice if you remembered to write our brides wedding date and trial in your book so that when we call to confirm you know what we are talking about.

Make-upzilla, we create a timeline and give you an hour per face, if you need more time, please let us know. And don't tell us you need 15 minutes per person, when really you need more. That doesn't help anyone.

Make-upzilla, it would also be nice if you remembered the price quoted so that when we call to confirm you are coming, you don't just pull a number out of your your-you-know-what.

Make-upzilla, if you have it noted to come to the brides location where she is getting ready, don't all of a sudden force her to come to the salon... and add a $350 travel fee to the bill.

Keep in mind these are all situation that we've had to work through, through the years. Most, if not all of them were resolved, without the bride knowing!

That is the beauty of having a wedding planner! Allow your wedding planner to handle the details, you just relax and remember it's YOUR day! Your dream day should be perfect!

The Beautiful Bride To Be - Beauty Tips For The Big Day

Posted by Doncrack Thursday, November 19, 2009

It goes without saying that we all want to look our best for the big day. So preparation is the key. Take care of your skin, hair and body in the months leading up to the wedding and you will have a good base to start from.

Starting with body, you want to look slim and happy in your wedding gown not bloated and insecure so watch what you eat in the months coming up to the wedding and exercise regularly. A good tip to prevent bloating as sworn by Hollywood stars before the Oscars are to cut down on carb's the last few weeks before the big day. This should eliminate any unwanted bumps and bulges.

To give your skin that healthy glow desired by all, you need to drink plenty of water, at least 2 liters per day, dehydrated skin looks dull, dry and unattractive. The essential fatty acids found in salmon, tuna, nuts and seeds are essential for beautiful skin and hair, try to eat as much of these as possible. Jennifer Lopez swears by this, she is so well known for her glowing, perfect skin that her perfume was called Glow in reference to her glowing complexion.

Keep your skin in shape with a daily cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine. It's very important that you are using the right products for your skin type. You can get advice from your local beauty sales counters on the best products out there for you. Remember to exfoliate your skin weekly, this will eliminate old dull skin cells and reveal new fresh skin beneath.

You should have an exfoliating routine for your back, arms and chest or any other part of your skin that will be on show in your dress. This will give a lovely healthy shine to your body. Remember to lash on loads of body cream after you exfoliate to sooth and moisten the skin.

If you are unlucky enough to have dry frizzy hair or you use color and harsh styling products regularly, you need to give your hair regular hair masks to bring the life and shine back to your tresses. Most salons provide hair treatments with lovely essential oil and vitamin products, which are great for your hair and scalp as a lovely weekly or biweekly treat. The price can range from $30 to $80 depending on the salon.

If you are more of a DIY girl why don't you purchase your own intensive moisturizing hair conditioner and do your own treatment. When you have put the treatment in the hair apply heat to using a hairdryer, then wrap your hair in cling film to keep in the heat, leaving as long as you desire this will prove a more intense treatment allowing the moisture to penetrate the hair cuticle.

Your hair will be shining with health and smelling yummy on the big day. Now for the real magic - make up, of course. Now that you are all glowing and beautiful nature sometimes needs a little help to give us that Hollywood beauty we all desire. The next step is your make up application. If you are going to get your make up done professionally you should shop around, just be cause they are "professionals" doesn't mean they are talented. Make sure you have an idea of what you want to look like on the day, bring bridal photos with make up styles you like and ideas on what hair style you will have also helps.

A clean fresh look always works with definition on the eyes. Make up that looks good in person is usually too little for photographs; the last thing you want is your eye disappearing in the photos. A good idea is to bring an instant camera with you and take photos of the various make up looks you have tried out, between you discuss what you like and don't like. Remember a photograph is less forgiving than a mirror.

Finally your hair, the range of styles are endless. Do not try out any new hair colors or cuts in the months leading up to the wedding, You don't want to try something different and trendy and then hate it leaving you no time to grow it out. Stick to what you know suits you. Also going for the most up to date styles isn't recommended you don't want to look back on your photos in ten years time explaining to your kids how it was fashonable at the time.

The first decision up or down? Wearing your hair up shows off your neckline and bone structure, always flattering in photographs. On the other hand more people are going for the sexy wavy tresses look that is being sported by Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston on her wedding day, very bohemian chic.

Your wedding gown will ultimately dictate your hairstyle. The rule of thumb is usually sexy wavy tresses equals plain simple dress. The simple up style will flatter the more elaborate dress. Either way what you feel comfortable with and the prettiest with is the style for you, a happy comfortable bride is a pretty bride.

Fair Hair

Posted by Doncrack Sunday, October 25, 2009

So, I was at the hairdresser on Saturday morning and whilst flicking through a pile of mags (as you do when you're getting your mane groomed) I came across this gorgeous hairstyle and thought it'd be perfect for a summer bride. It's a gorgeous style on its own but if you added some pretty flowers it would be super duper specky. I'm all for a braid or two! Excuse the quality of the pic...!!

5 Steps to a Fit Wedding Day

Posted by Doncrack

Your boyfriend finally pops the question and now, with the possession of that rock on your finger, you’ve been catapulted to the status of fiancé. All of a sudden, your head is flooded by a swelling sea of questions. The first one that usually rears its ugly head is; we’ve set the date for the special day, but I feel as big as a house and how is my dress going to fit? People that I haven’t seen in ten years will come to the wedding, am I going to have to wear a black dress now in some lame attempt to make me look thinner?

I’ll let you drive yourself crazy with these questions for a few moments longer, and then slap you out of your hysteria. While you may not really look like a duplex, every bride to be feels that they are fat and would love to look more beautiful on their big day. So, I’ve come up with the 5 most important things you need to do in order to lose fat and be more fit in time for your walk down the aisle.

  1. Create a plan- Not a plan as big as your wedding; you’re not planning a workout for 400 people... just you. In your plan, figure out a REAL schedule, not a wishful thinking, I hope I can, if I juggle this or get my mother in law to do that, schedule. A real “I will workout Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:30 pm” schedule. Then figure out where; at home, a gym or a friend’s house (or if the weather is cooperative; the park). When that’s done, pick a non-family member to workout with you, to keep you accountable. This should take all of 15 minutes, so don’t put it off because you think doilies under the centerpieces really matter, they don’t.
  2. Set Goals – Goals are things you shoot for, they are not fantasies. Four important things to keep in mind when setting goals are; Make the goals specific, “Not, I want to lose weight for my wedding” but “I will lose 15 pounds of fat or 3 inches in my waist for my wedding.” Make sure it is possible to measure your goals, either by yourself, or by a fitness professional. Set big goals. Don’t sell yourself short. You can achieve anything you set out to do. Have realistic deadlines. If you think “I can lose 30 pounds in 30 days” you’re dead wrong. 1-2 pounds a week is a good start.
  3. Write down your food intake – Keeping a journal of what you eat throughout the day is the best way to keep yourself accountable. Most individuals who keep food diaries are likelier to eat healthier and stay the course, than those that don’t. If you need a food journal I’ll send you one for free, just logon to www.askrocco.com and click on Free Food Journal. Consider this a gift from us for your wedding day.
  4. Commit to exercise 3 hours a week- I don’t care if it is three days for 1 hour per day, or 6 days for 30 minutes, that’s for you to decide (remember create a realistic plan). A routine that incorporates resistance training and aerobic exercise will create a symmetrical look for your body. Don’t just try to work on your trouble spots, because you will wind up looking out of balance due to overcompensation.
  5. Exercise with intensity – As with any exercise plan you need to workout, and not just show up. If you can walk or run and hold a conversation with your friend, you’re not working out hard enough. If you’re waiting more than 15 seconds between sets, you’re not working out hard enough. The last 5 repetitions of each set are supposed to burn, and you should need to ask your partner for some help. The higher the intensity, the quicker the results, and the shorter the workouts will have to be…efficiency at its best!

Understanding these simple principles will not only get you in shape for your big day, but keep you fit for the rest of your life. Good luck and look great on your honeymoon.

Super Silica
There is one thing brides want (just about as much as the perfect wedding dress) and that's flawless skin. You'll change your diet, stop drinking alcohol, do more exercise and undertake a ridiculous beauty plan all in the hope of having a crystal clear glow. I'm always intrigued by models beauty regimes and recommendations and after reading an interview with Australian model Abbey Lee Kershaw, who said she swore by Silica, I was in. I headed straight to my local pharmacy and low and behold, there it was. I am now nearly through my second bottle (I opted Planet Health Qsilica in liquid form) and cannot speak highly enough of it. My complexion is clear and even, redness has been well and truly reduced, my nails and cuticles are the healthiest they've ever been, my hair breakages have been reduced to the bare minimum, my hair is growing faster and my skin in general is softer, smoother and responds even better to moisturiser. Could it honestly get any better?! I've now converted a few girlfriends after they pointed out my skin was looking fab. The best ever proof that something is working wonders! Planet Health's Qsilica Gel is a convenient form of mineral silica, which is important for the health of connective tissue, skin, hair, nails, and joint cartilage. Silica also plays a key role in the production of collagen in the skin and can also help to support and maintain strong bones and teeth by playing a role in the metabolism of calcium in the body. Each bottle of gel lasts between 6-8 weeks (depending on how much you take) and will honestly make a huge difference. So, I have Abbey Lee Kershaw to thank now! Visit www.qsilica.com.au to find out more.

500ml bottle $29.95, 50 capsules $29.95 and 100 capsules $49.90
