Cleaning Your Diamond ~ Keep the Brillance!!

Life can be hard on your jewelry, dirt and grime builds up spoils the gleam of your diamonds, even stored away dust and atmospheric particles conspire to make your diamonds dull.

Cleaning your diamonds will restore them to their full, sparkling brilliance, getting rid of the oils, dirt, hand lotion and everything else. Diamonds are made to shine.

Cleaning your diamonds is not hard work and a little effort will keep them shining like new. Think of the windows in your house, they shine when the light can pass through them, it's the same for diamonds. All it requires is a little love on your part.

Using a fine soft brush and some soapy water you can keep the brilliance alive. Make a bowl of warm water and washing up liquid and soak your jewelry for a short time. This will soften the ingrained dirt and make it easier to remove from the tiny crevices.

Whilst the diamonds are submerged use a soft brush to gently clean away any soiling, rub gently in all directions and for rings make sure to clean around the back of the stone if it is an open mount. If the diamonds are to dirty to clean in this way then you can make mixture of ammonia and water 1:1 solution to soak the diamonds for about twenty minutes, this should loosen even the toughest grime.

If you do not like the idea of mixing your own solution many jewelry stores will sell a specialist cleaning solution for your diamonds. If you do purchase such a kit then make sure it is for diamonds and read and adhere to the instructions fully. Follow any safety precautions to the letter and wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.

A twenty first century answer to cleaning your diamonds is to use an ultra sonic cleaning machine. This machine utilises sonic vibrations to literally shake the grime off. These machines work in different ways so always read the instructions.

Now that you have brilliant, dazzling diamonds again keep them clean by carefully rubbing them with a lint free cloth like a spectacles cloth and when you are not wearing them store them in airtight box to keep the dust out.
