When it comes to beach weddings the possibilities are endless. The limit to your creativity is your imagination!
I don’t if you have ever noticed, but depending on the time of day, the mood of the beach can be very different. First thing in the morning it is quite & serene, by midday it is a hub of excitement & the centre of activity, by dusk calm is restored & as romantic a setting as you will find anywhere. Because of its natural characteristics, you don’t need to go overboard on the decorations either, there is always something new to look at.
A beach setting is perfect for an intimate party with just a small number of guests. Have your ceremony at dusk when the scene is at its most tranquil & romantic. A dusk or dawn setting would also provide a spectacular backdrop to your wedding photos.
For a larger gathering choose an afternoon reception when everyone can get together & have some fun in the sun!
To set your finer details such as wedding favors & invitations, here are a few ideas…
Building Sand Castles in the Sun. Hire a professional sand sculptor to create a fabulous sand castle or sea themed sculpture for you on the beach. Or provide your guests with buckets & spades & have a sandcastle building competition. Make sure you have a great prize for the winner!
Have a Pirate Wedding. Throw a themed party & rent pirate costumes. Decorate your tables with a stash of stolen treasure & give your guests wedding favors in miniature treasure chests. You could theme your invitations to look like treasure maps or have a real life treasure on the beach. When it is time for your take your leave arrange to sail away into the sunset!
How about an "I Dream of Jeannie" beach wedding theme? Cover the beach with decorative glass bottles like the one she was found in. You could also use these same bottles as wedding favors, get your guests to retrieve one before the sea claims it!
A Surfing theme would be tons of fun. Go for a casual look with a simple dress & a loose hairstyle with a beach themed hair comb. Dress the men in Hawaiian shirts & casual pants. Play the beach boys at the reception & set up a bar using a surf board atop of two saw horses.
Don’t assume that a beach wedding is out of the question because you don’t live near the sea. Remember a beach is a stretch of sand along the shores of a body of water, which can include lakes & rivers. Failing that, have sand brought in & create your own in your garden or by a pool! Just don’t forget your sunscreen!
