The Perfect Asian Wedding

Posted by Doncrack Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Couples who want to get married want to have the perfect wedding celebration that they will treasure forever. It has to be perfect as a celebration of love and the life that they will share together. As such, marrying couples have the freedom to choose the theme and details of their wedding. They can choose any program that will satisfy the desires of their hearts. One of the best choices for wedding themes is the Asian wedding style.

The Asian Wedding Theme

The brides and grooms who love anything Asian can enjoy their own Asian wedding. It can let one have the feel of the ethnic traditions and oriental culture. An Asian wedding is perfect for anyone who wants to have a taste of the culture of Asians. It can also allow one to enjoy the simplicity of a Zen-like environment while maintaining the elegance in the ceremony. Asian-themed weddings will put emphasis more on the simple and solemn celebration of the ceremony. It also has due regard to environment and nature. It can make the wedding as pure as the love that the marrying couple shares.

How to Enjoy Your Own Asian-themed Wedding?

Once you have finally decided that you will have your own Asian wedding to celebrate about, it is only proper that you take the necessary preparations to stage this wonderful event.

Here are some of the points to consider for that special wedding day.

1. Japanese or Chinese

There are many Asian countries in the East whose wedding traditions you can copy on your own. However, the Japanese and Chinese cultures are the more popular ones. You can easily look for decorations, materials and details that will go about with the traditions of these two countries, considering that the Western world has embraced the elements of these oriental cultures.

2. Have Fun with the Colors

Once you have opted to take on an Oriental wedding, then you can freely consider wonderful colors in your wedding day. Generally speaking, white is not the best choice for a gown in an Asian wedding. In the oriental culture, white is the color of death. It is not wise to stick with white if you are going all out oriental. Red is the lucky color, together with black. These two colors are believed to bring the marrying couple luck and prosperity in the days to come. So it will be great to consider these color schemes and experiment on the new choices that you have. You can actually consider surveying your local community for designers that have knowledge of the Asian styles. The online community also gives a lot of choices for providing ideas when it comes to genuine Oriental apparel.

3. Simplicity and Elegance

An Asian bride will naturally display her beauty by exuding elegance in her simplicity. This means that you have to seek for a gown with simple lines and not too many embellishments. Use fabrics that are truly reflective of Oriental style. Choose for footwear strappy sandals that will complement the elegant gown. The best detail that an Asian bride focuses on is her hairstyle. It must not be wavy or curly or let loose. The hair must be styled with a dramatic flair to complement the simple gown.

4. Wedding Details

There is a wide range of choices when it comes to details. You can have paper lanterns, origami or pottery decorations. You can also put up a small pond with the koi fish swimming in it. Orchids and lilies are wonderful options for the flowers. You can also put small fishbowls in the center of the table with white and black stones in it. Just consult your wedding planner for a more coordinated scheme of your choices.

5. Wedding Favors

You can have fun too with the wedding favors that you will give to your guests. One of the popular choices couples do is to give out fortune cookies. Guests have fun in reading some predictions. It is also a tradition to give out seed packets that can be grown by the guests in their households. This is a symbolism of the love of the couple that will continue to grow. For a more practical choice, you can have some of your wedding favors become the decoration itself in the wedding tables. Bamboo stalks are used to signify good luck. The guests can simply pick it up after the celebration as a wonderful memento.

Conclusion

Consider the tips and notes provided above and you will definitely enjoy a delightful Oriental celebration on your wedding day.

This is my Paris, the city I Love.
Nothing beats it, I still fall under its charm every time I go out for a promenade. I have just finished editing a video I filmed a few weekends ago. I was wandering through the gardens of the Tuillerie on a sunday, late in the afternoon. I do take my clients there for some fun & classy portrait photography from time to time.
Lucky enough, it is a few steps away from my studio. Every time is a different feeling,
the change of seasons, the subtleties of the light always make it a unique experience.

Hi Everyone ... I'm Fine

Posted by Doncrack Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Hey everybody -

Thanks for all the well wishes gals (and guys). I am so sorry for my absence these last few weeks. Things just got pretty crazy and overwhelming, so I needed to try and take a blog breather.

And not to worry, I have not been hiding under a rock this last month, instead, I have:

- Seeing Bailey perform as Elle Woods in one of her last performances of Legally Blonde on Broadway. LOVE. THIS. SHOW. I was singing Oh My God, Oh My God You Guys the entire time I was in NYC.

- Hung out with my in-laws for a week in Duck. We stayed in an awesome neighborhood AND I got to stop here for a fro-yo flurry on the way there and on the way home.

- Found the perfect fall dress. In leopard print. For 20 dollars. Warning for you gals who wear larger than an A cup, this dress makes your girls look huge!

- Am almost done planning my 10 year high school reunion. We're having a party on Saturday here and a picnic in our hometown that's kid friendly on Sunday. Anyone want to drive over to my house to help me stuff 30 grab bags for the kids on Sunday.

I promise to bring you some wedding/fall/preppy inspiration in the coming days, I just wanted everyone to know I was ok.

Oh and one more thing, I need help lovely readers. As you know the preppy pooches, Dempsey and LuLu always make a costume statement on Halloween. I am totally stumped this year. I haven't seen anything cute at my normal go-to places (target and old navy). Suggestions?

Women's 14 Kt. St. Bridget's Cross with Diamond Necklace

Women's 14 Kt. St. Bridget's Cross with Diamond Necklace

There is one great thing about anything that relates to Ireland and that is the fact everything, be it the tradition of St. Patrick's day or the Cliffs of Mohan, literally everything has a story. And the same rule applies to Irish Celtic jewelry. Each delicately crafted piece has a legend behind it.

And you cannot get more Irish than the story of St. Brigid and her cross. It's a beautiful representation of how the Pagan and the Christian mythology is weaved together and makes for the rich tapestry of Irish history.

The story of St. Brigid's Cross cannot be told without telling the story of St. Brigit first. She is considered as one of the patron saints of Ireland (much like St. Patrick) and her feast day is on February 1st.

Brigid was born out of wedlock between Dubhthack, who was a pagan chieftain of Leinster, and Brocessa, one of his slaves. Because the child was a girl, the mother was sold to Connaught and the little girl was given to a Druid to be educated. She was raised a pagan and the exact time of her conversion to Christianity is still uncertain but once she converted to Christianity, Brigid is believed to have formed a convent in Clara, Co. Offaly.

But it was the abbey in Kildare that she became famous for - after all she is considered to be the guiding force behind the first female Christian community in Ireland. When she came to Kildare she extinguished the ritual fire of the Druids and lit a new fire dedicated to Christ which remained burning long after she was gone. Not to mention that the abbey in Kildare became one of the strongholds of learning in Europe. St. Brigid was revered by men and women alike for her gentle spirit, common sense and charitable work. She was laid to rest in 525 AD at Kil Dara.

In 835 AD her remains were moved to a tomb in Downpatrick that is also believed to hold the remains of other 2 of Ireland's most cherished saints - St. Patrick and St. Columcille.

St. Brigid's Cross is also known in Gaelic as Cros BrĂde and it is believed to have been inspired by the pagan sun wheel. And although the interpretations of this story are plentiful, the legend goes that a pagan chieftain of a neighboring village was on his death bed and delirious. St. Brigit was sent to talk to him about Christ.

Since the man was completely incoherent, St. Brigit started to console him and she picked up the rushes that were strewn across the floor and started to weave them into a cross.

The chieftain was shaken from his delirium and asked her what she was doing. She told him the story of Christ and the cross. The sick chieftain listened to her with interest and before he died he converted to Christianity and was baptized.

Since then, on February 1st on the day of St. Brigid's liturgical celebration and what is also considered to be the first day of spring in Ireland the crosses made of rushes are weaved.

And while you might be hard stretched to find St. Brigid's cross on display in urban parts of Ireland, in the rural areas they are still on display especially since the belief is that they protect the house from evil and fire. One place in urban Ireland where you can be certain you will find an example of St. Brigid's cross is the Irish Celtic jewelers, who use its design as an inspiration for pendants.

Even though St. Brigid might be long gone, she is still one of Ireland's most celebrated patron saints much in the same rank as St. Patrick.

The woman of gentle spirit, who befriended people and animals alike, who dedicated her life to Christ, is still remembered today not only in Ireland but also in continental Europe where her teachings have spread over time.

The right wedding undergarments are flattering and comfortable. If you've chosen a wedding dress that flatters (and of course you did!), it deserves good undergarments to make it hang the way it's supposed to. You deserve good undergarments that you can wear all day long in comfort and you certainly deserve good undergarments that accentuate your most fabulous parts! Wedding days are long and stressful. The last thing you need is to have to ignore bones that stick into you or be unable to breathe on what's supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life. Bad underwear is as painful as bad shoes.

Good undergarments are expensive. But if you choose wisely, you'll wear them again.
Get fitted by a professional. If you have to, take the wedding dress with you. You don't want to bulge out or over and you also don't want anything sticking in you or constricting you! You may have to travel to find a store who can help you with the underwear you need. Take this trip well in advance of your wedding. And if you have significant weight loss or gain, in addition to getting the dress refitted, you may have to go get new undergarments.

If you've never worn a thong, buy one to wear before the wedding ceremony. If you haven't worn thigh highs before, check to make sure that you have the kind of legs they'll stay up on. Don't assume you'll find everything comfortable just because it was fashionable. In fact, I would practice wearing my wedding underwear for a full day to make sure you can wear it without discomfort or malfunctions.

Don't assume that expensive means comfortable.
Make sure that you're discretely covered. We all know what the cold does to women, and that's not where you want all eyes to be when you're exchanging wedding vows with your beloved.
Consider sharing this list with your bridesmaids, as well.

You want to look beautiful on your wedding day. And you will because you're going to be blazingly happy. But you want to look beautiful as you, not as someone you've seen in a magazine. So once you find the perfect dress, find the foundation garment that keeps everything right where it's supposed to be, beautifully and comfortably. (Wow, a great metaphor for good wedding vows!) Then go have a marvelous wedding ceremony and wedding day. Start your marriage confident in your beauty!

Bottom Line?: Give your relationship the chance it deserves to succeed wildly, against all odds! After all, you deserve it. Your relationship deserves it! And now I'd like to invite you to sign up to receive 2 free templates for creating the wedding ceremony of your dreams, the wedding vows of your heart and the marriage of a lifetime: http://annkeelerevans.org/weddings/free

The Rev. Ann Keeler Evans - helping you move from "I do" to happily and healthily ever after!

Walking in heels on your wedding day

(Part 1: Get "the feel.")

You have found the perfect shoe for your wedding. It looks heavenly with your dress, and who knew your legs could look that good with the right heel? There's only one problem: you look and feel like a clumsy oaf in high heels!

Don’t worry. Just as you can break in your shoes, you can "break in" yourself with a few easy steps. If your wedding heels are much higher than the height you are accustomed to wearing, you can gradually get accustomed to the height of the heel. Start your break-in period with a heel that is slightly higher than most of your shoes; and, gradually, over time, work up to the bridal shoe.

Step 1: Get used to the idea of heels.

If you normally wear flats, your first step will be not to step at all, but to stand. Develop your "high-heel legs" by slipping on your bridal shoes in front of a mirror (so you can admire those legs and get a view of how great you look), turning to the right and left. Practice various postures, standing with your legs together and progressively further apart until they are shoulder-width. When you are comfortable standing, it is time to start moving around.

Step 2: Start with baby steps.

Your first steps should be on a flat, sturdy, and uncluttered surface, so you can concentrate on the act of walking. High heels and obstacles do not mix when you are first starting out. Take a few steps with your legs close together and straight; keep your feet pointed straight ahead. For the most feminine effect, as you walk down the aisle, practice placing one foot directly in front of the other as you step forward. (Think runway model.) Do this until you are comfortable with that way of walking.

Step 3: Learn how to turn.

Because your back will be "on stage" facing your guests during the ceremony, you must be able to gracefully turn before walking back down the aisle after the finale — when your groom kisses you for the first time. Depending on your ceremony, you may not need to make a full 180-degree turn; but, by practicing a full turnaround, you will be prepared for all eventualities.

Imagine it is your wedding day and you are facing the person who is conducting the ceremony. First, pivot halfway around, so that both feet, as well as your body, are facing your new husband, and your weight is on the leg closest to the officiant. Complete the turn by stepping toward the aisle with the foot closest to your guests. At that point, you will be facing your guests and can safely continue walking back down the aisle. If you would like visual demonstrations, study fashion models as they turn at the end of runways. A search on YouTube or other video Websites will provide several examples.

Step 4: Prepare for obstacles.

Invariably, there will be a few surprises on your wedding day that will require a bit of quick-stepping: a child will fall in your way, or you will have to move around a mess or rain puddle, for example. Avoiding these obstacles will require stepping sideways, altering your stride, or even moving backwards without stumbling. Practice these moves at various speeds until you can confidently complete them in your heels. As an added bonus, if you plan to wear high heels at the reception, these same motions will prepare you for the dance floor.

Oscar de la Renta wedding dress

Posted by Doncrack Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Just a last photo of Deirdre wearing her beautiful Oscar de la Renta wedding dress.
The photo was taken right in front of Bertillon on the Isle St Louis. Best Ice cream in Paris
with the most beautiful afternoon lights over Notre Dame!

And a thank you note from my bride that always warm my heart.

"... Olivier,

We just returned and are a bit dazed from the 2 day trip home. India was spectacular, and the Maldives were paradise. It was the perfect honeymoon.

The first thing we did upon our arrival in the States was to view the slideshow. We were blown away! I cannot tell you how much we love the photos. I knew you would do an amazing job, but you far exceeded my expectations. I have now viewed the slideshow countless times and every time am moved to tears which are then replaced by the hugest smile. Not only were you able to capture the beauty of Paris and the spirit and emotion of the day but also our personalities. I was concerned that spending over 3 hours taking pictures would be tedious but you put us at ease and made it delightfully fun. Everyone has been talking about how wonderful you are and how lucky I was to find you and I couldn't agree more! We are over the moon and eternally grateful.

We hope to see you again either in Paris or New York very soon.

All of my love to Pierre.

A bientot!

xox

Trash the dress in Paris!

Posted by Doncrack Monday, October 13, 2008

It is commonly called "Trash the Dress" in the U.S - Somehow, I do not feel the expression would do much justice to my photography. Paris is a beautiful backdrop to go out and spend a few hours with a bride who wants to take her wedding dress out of the draw one last time. It is a great opportunity for some wonderful portraits that you did not have the chance to do during your wedding day. IT is fun, relaxing, may be daring and always classic & Chic!

Bridal Bracelet

Posted by Doncrack

Diamonds set in gold are a traditional jewellery combination. Combined with the beauty of a bridal bracelet, can truly turn out to be a piece of jewellery that is treasured. The more diamonds in a piece of jewellery, the more spark. Maybe that is why so many women lust after diamond bridal bracelets, white gold in particular. These bridal bracelets are typically studded with many different diamonds of the same size and shape in a single line, with bars of gold (or occasionally platinum) between the stones. The outcome is that of classic beauty, restrained opulence and charm.

If your wedding is planned for mid to late June it is not too late to make a striking chalcedony and pearl bridal bracelet for your wedding day. It also makes a beautiful gift for your bridesmaids. This bridal bracelet is one of my most admired due to the truth that it combines pearls, which are an everlasting bridal favourite and the beautiful blue gemstone - using a blue gemstone covers the 'something blue' of the bridal lore.

A woman wearing a bridal bracelet especially a bridal ankle bracelet with a wedding dress could have an even more attractive appearance than another woman wearing the same attire. Bridal ankle bracelets or bridal anklets have always been a popular fashion accessory adorning girls' and women's ankles for decades. There are different kinds of bridal ankle bracelets. There are gold bridal ankle bracelets, custom or personalized bridal ankle bracelets, bridal ankle bracelets with diamonds or other gems, beaded anklets, sterling silver anklets flexible or hinged anklets and stretch, and weave or locking anklets.

Take your time to search for the perfect bridal bracelet and have an array of alternatives to choose from and go for what you feel would be most appropriate. As a gift, it need not be pricey, although you could always go for the really expensive ones if the price is not a problem for you.

Indian Bridal Jewelry from Head to Toe

Posted by Doncrack Sunday, October 12, 2008

Girls just love weddings. They consider it as one of the most important days of their lives. Some of them even start thinking about their dream weddings when they are old enough to know what a wedding is all about. Among the girls all over the world, it must be the Indian girls who love to associate Indian bridal jewelry with their wedding daydreams. This is because in India, the jewelry is an essential part of any woman's wedding day. The Indian tradition calls for brides to be decked with Indian bridal jewelry from head to toe. All the pieces of jewelry would have to complement each other as well as the outfit that the Indian bride is wearing.

Indian bridal jewelry does not have to mean the ones that are worn during the wedding day only but also on the engagement party that an Indian bride-to-be might be having before her big day. The Indian bridal jewelry would have to include earrings, nose rings, necklaces, bracelets or bangles as well as anklets and other possible adornments of the body that could be made with precious stones. These jewelries could be made of the most precious gems like diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds among others, set in gold, silver or platinum. Whatever the type of Indian bridal jewelry, brides would want them to fit the colors of the outfit that she will be wearing on both her engagement and her wedding day.

It is expected though that the Indian bridal jewelry that will be worn on a bride-to-be's engagement party would be different than the ones that will adorn her body on her wedding day. During the engagement party, the jewelry would have to be less heavy and simpler in design. It is not uncommon for Indian brides to have their Indian bridal jewelry for both their engagement and wedding dates to be designed specifically for them. This is especially true for those who are rich and extravagant in their tastes of jewelry.

They would have different sets of Indian bridal jewelry for both occasions custom-designed preferably by known jewelry designers. For the engagement, it is accepted that the bride-to-be will wear just a one piece of jewelry like an elaborately designed necklace embedded with precious stones. In other times though this piece of Indian bridal jewelry would be complemented with earrings that are simply designed but is equally opulent in terms of the appliquĂƒ©d stones as well as with a bracelet of the same design or precious stone embellishments.

On the wedding date itself, the bride would wear the heavy Indian bridal jewelry that she had made. These Indian bridal jewelry generally consists of the Maangtika or that piece of Indian bridal jewelry that most if not all Indian brides wear on their heads, the necklace, the nose ring, the earrings, the waistband, the anklets and the rings for the toes as well as the bangles worn on the arm.

The Maangtika is generally designed for the bride herself and will go well with the other jewelry that will adorn her body. The other pieces of jewelry that make the entire Indian bridal jewelry are designed according to the colors of the wedding trousseau. While it is okay to be understated when it comes to the colors of the precious gems embedded in the Indian bridal jewelry, Indian brides most often than not go for eye-catching pieces that are bold in colors. For the Indian bride, the most opulent the Indian bridal jewelry is, the better.

Tasteful Bridal Jewelry for Older Brides

Posted by Doncrack Saturday, October 11, 2008

The average age for an American bride is about 25 years old. For women who are a bit older than that (or even quite a bit older), they will want to take a few things into consideration when choosing their bridal jewelry. Instead of wearing the type of jewelry that a young ingenue would, an older bride should look for pieces that suit her age and level of sophistication.

Perhaps you have seen so many beautiful pieces of bridal jewelry, and simply do not know what is appropriate or where to begin. It will be much easier once you have selected your gown or bridal ensemble. Then you can match the formality of the jewelry to what you will be wearing on your special day.

Brides who are a little older will find that certain styles of bridal jewelry will suit them and that others will look too young. This will have less to do with whether you are a first time bride or not; it is really a question of finding pieces that are elegant and sophisticated. There are a few styles, in particular, that a mature woman should avoid.

It is often the hair jewelry that poses the great pitfalls for an older bride. There are some types of headpieces that will work beautifully for a bride of any age, but others that will not. Tiaras, specifically, are best left to the younger set. Unless you are real royalty, skip the crown, and opt for a more chic look like a scattering of hairpins.

Other types of jewelry will depend on your own style and figure. For example, a woman who has, shall we say, a "mature" neck, should stay away from chokers, as they will emphasize any wrinkles or looseness that may be present. It is still possible to wear a short necklace; just do not choose one that clings too tightly to the neck.

On the other hand, there may be some styles that you are unaccustomed to wearing that could work beautifully. Many women, as they grow older, tend to get more conservative in their fashion choices. Your wedding might be the perfect time to break away from what you wear every day and try something more adventurous, like a great pair of drop earrings.

One of the nicest things about being an older bride is that you likely know your own taste and sensibilities. This will prove very helpful when it comes time to choose your wedding gown and jewelry. You may want to consider having your bridal jewelry custom made so that you can get exactly what you want. If you find a designer who handcrafts custom bridal jewelry from Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls, it can be surprisingly affordable.

There are so many wonderful options when it comes to wedding jewelry, which means that there is a perfect set for every bride. When you are an older bride, make sure that the bridal jewelry you select really makes you shine. Knowing that your jewelry looks great will help you to feel even lovelier on your wedding day.

Finding the whole process of weddings and all the planning that goes into one fascinating, Laura writes about many of the considerations that brides have to deal with. Custom bridal jewelry is perfect for tasteful brides of all ages.

I do hope that you will all enjoy this little " About me " wedding video -
It made me laugh indeed as well as quite a few friends :)
It is about a wedding photographer who doesn't take himself too seriously
and obviously loves his job -

and a few words we have just received from Anna who is featured on the video

"... Hi Olivier

Just a quick note to thank you and Audrey for the most wonderful video.
We've watched it so many times - it makes us laugh and cry at the same
time! We particularly like the bit of my Dad at the end - very funny!
And the dancing scenes really captured the moment.

Please pass my thanks to Audrey.

Perhaps our paths will cross again - I will certainly recommend your
services to anyone looking for a photographer or videographer in France.

Best wishes to you.

D700 and wedding photography

Posted by Doncrack

I have just purchased the new D700 a few weeks ago - have been testing it on a few jobs already and it simply rocks! Finally starting to fully enjoy digital photography. I was just about to buy the D3 and thank God I spoke to my dear friend Laurent who advised me against it - I have no regrets. It is a smaller body, holds perfectly well in my hands, 12.1-megapixel FX-format (23.9 x 36mm) - Everything i have been dreaming of and more. It is the perfect tool for a photo-journalist, reportage, wedding photographer. Well , I just rave about it but I am really exited to look at the images on my screen! It is the best thing Nikon has come up with in a long time.
Here is the best review around comparing the D700 to the D3 Nikon camera .

wedding at the Chateau st. Julien

Posted by Doncrack Sunday, October 5, 2008

I have just returned from the "chateau st. Julien" where I was photographing a wedding over the week end ! The chĂ¢teau lies in the center of the Poitou, a culturally rich but largely undiscovered region of west-central France that abounds in history, good food and clean air. I will post a slide show later on this week once I have processed some 2,000 photos -

New York City Chapel of Love

Posted by Doncrack

While I lived in New York city, I photographed a few of my friends " intimate wedding affair " at the " New York City Chapel of Love " or rather the Manhattan marriage bureau at city hall. " The setting was a warren of offices on the second floor of the Municipal Building, its hallways lined with cracked tile floors, fading yellow walls and dim fluorescent lighting, where city employees have been giving true love a brief, secular send-off since 1916 " says the NY times article I have just read this morning. Nicole Bengiveno , a New York times photographer, documented a Day and a Life of the Marriage bureau at city hall before its closure. The photots are great and brought back wonderful memories!
